Ushuaia, Argentina: Workshop of knowledge production on “Housing and Citizenship”
To close Red de Habitat meeting and the AGFE mission, IAI, Red Patagónica de Habitat and the Foro Urbano de Ushuaia organized and presented the first of the Urban Popular University (UPU) National Meeting “Housing and Citizenship” on Sunday, August 9 in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego province, Argentina.
The workshop’s general goals were to enhance community leaders’ ability to become agents of their own fate and to direct the development of their territories, to develop the leaders’ proposals and the government’s capacity for action and to encourage due reflection on key concepts directly linked to the efforts and goals of IAI and the grassroots movement.
The Workshop of knowledge production relied on the participation of leaders who fight for decent housing in different Ushuaia settlements as well as representatives of Buenos Aires’ social organizations and Paraguay’s Committee on Spontaneous Settlements (CAES). It was facilitated by Cristina Reynals (UPU’s coordinator for Latin America) and Roxana Crudi (docent and researcher at the Department of Social Science at the University of Buenos Aires - UBA).
